New CCNP Certification: Save some money before July 31, 2010

CCNP certification requirements will be revised after July 31, 2010. You will have to pass 3 new exams to get CCNP certified:
  • ROUTE (original, BSCI)
  • SWITCH (original, BCMSN)
  • TSHOOT
Since the new CCNP does not count ISCW and ONT, your passed result of ISCW or ONT will remain valid only before July 31, 2010. BSCI and BCMSN, on the other hand, will still be counted as ROUTE and SWITCH respectively.

I think I found one timely approach to get your same CCNP with less costs!

Original CCNP requires you to pass 4 exams (BSCI, BCMSN, ISCW, and ONT). Each exam costs USD 150. Totally you have to pay USD 600 to get your CCNP.

New CCNP after July 31 only requires you to pass 3 exams. However, each new exam now costs USD 200. So you will also have to pay the same USD 600 totally for an new CCNP.

How can we save costs? If you pass BSCI and BCMSN exams before July 31, and then pass TSHOOT later, totally you will only have to pay USD 500 (= 150 + 150 + 200), saving USD 100!

Descriptions on Cisco web sites such as this discussion and Path 3 of CCNP Certification on Cisco.com support this idea!

If you pass BSCI, BCMSN, ISCW and ONT on or before July 31, 2010, you will definitely become certified. If you don't complete your certification by then, the BSCI, BCMSN and COMP exams can still be used towards certification, but the ISCW and ONT exams cannot. You would then need to pass TSHOOT to complete your certification. The exam topics for TSHOOT are already posted--check it out. You can also purchase a Cisco Press Exam Certification Guide or Certification Kit for TSHOOT.

Conclusion

  1. For CCNP takers: if you prepare and pass BSCI and BCMSN exams quick enough before July 31, you would save up to USD 100. You do not have to feel sad if you do not make it. You only have to pay the same cost as before.
  2. Do not waste time on ISCW and ONT any more, to get your CCNP.
