Cisco's new NSS 300 Series has much more performance than predecessors!

Cisco recently announced her new NSS 300 Series Smart Storage. I was interested in its performance and luckily I came across this post: QNAP Probably Behind Cisco's New Small Business NASes.

Doubled and more performance than previous versions

If the post was correct, the 4-bay model Cisco NSS 324 would be close to QNAP's TS-459.

QNAP's TS-459's performance is also tested by SmallNetBuilder.

Note: I pick the numbers "(attaching to) 1000 Mbps Average Performance" listed in their "NAS Charts" page for simple comparison.

  • Average read: 70.5M bytes per second.
  • Average write: 110.0M bytes per second.

The figures above are impressive because the similar 4-bay model of previous Cisco NSS 3000 product was not good. Also tested by SmallNetBuilder:

  • Average read: 20.1M bytes per second.
  • Average write: 44.3M bytes per second.

Cisco's new NSS 324 has doubled and more the performance of NSS 3000!

Conclusion

Although NSS 300 is designed as a small Network Attached Storage (NAS) for Small Business, because of it's built-in FTP and Syslog server functions, it could also be used as small repository to backup IOS images, configurations, and log messages for larger enterprises.

An interesting product from Cisco!
